52 Poems: Week 20 – Hero

The men of old, some legends say

Could singlehandedly save the day

When hope was gone and all seemed lost,

A man would rise and pay the cost,

To see his village, kingdom, country,

Rally and raise the banner firmly

Defying their foe, no matter the kind,

The man, their leader, they march behind

To victory or death they go,

This hero strives to fell the foe

Of village, kingdom, country, alike

His moment arrives, a blow to strike

No matter if they win or lose,

A hero, defiance will he choose

Always, forever, his choice endures

To lead those when a time adjures,

Another man to rise and stand,

And reach his foe with marshalled band

And thus the legend continues on,

Age after age until sun’s final dawn
